Quality Thrifting with Community Impact 〰️

Ubuntu Thrift Shop is specially curated with pre loved pieces from well known brands, hand-selected from across the country to provide high quality clothing and accessories to our community.

A portion of proceeds are disbursed to support families in accessing creative and non conventional therapeutic outlets that promote healthy wellbeing for young people. Outlets can be transformational, creative, alternative, - anything that can be recognised for its therapeutic value.

To apply for funds, applicants do not need to be on a mental health plan or accessing NDIS.

Some examples of what funds can be utilised for:

  • Creative therapy - play, art, equine, music, drama, dance

  • Cooking classes, group connection activities

  • Activities involving physical movement - sports, recreational activities

Our goal is to support the current funding gap to ensure young people have access to the services that resonate with them and support their individual needs.

The word UBUNTU stems from an African philosophy and roughly translates to “humanity to others” and emphasizes the importance of treating others with compassion, kindness, and respect.

The philosophy conveys the humanist idea that the relationship you build with others and your community is shaped by who you are, which, in turn, shapes you.

The word Ubuntu encapsulates the ideology of ‘providing for community’ that we so strongly believe in.

Thrift shop. Op Shop. Rummage Sale.  Pre loved, pre owned, second-hand, vintage. Whatever you call it, there is a thrill that comes with finding hidden treasures and absolute bargains during an op shopping adventure.

The Ubuntu Thrift Shop is a space where community members can browse through pre loved pieces from well known brands, hand-selected from across the country to purchase at affordable prices.

Whether on the hunt for thrifting ‘treasure’ or an absolute bargain, customers can find anything from basic wardrobe essentials to bright and colourful pieces for a special occasion and can match this with our beautiful accessories.

At Ubuntu, the idea of non conventional is an open slate allowing for ‘outlets’ to be whatever is meaningful and therapeutic for the young person. We believe that therapy is not just clinical - it is something that a person connects with most that helps them to heal, learn and grow.

Our purpose is to support the funding gap to ensure these non conventional outlets are accessible to all families. A portion of proceeds from the thrift shop are disbursed to organisations offering therapeutic, creative or physical  immersive programs that support and engage young people and families in our community seeking assistance outside regular clinical channels.

We want to ensure all young people can access these outlets not just to assist in healing from trauma, but also for those who are seeking empowerment, something to inspire a sense of purpose or who are looking for their place, direction or something to ignite a spark or interest.

Applications are open to young people aged 6 to 15 and their caregivers.

Applications can be submitted via the link below, with the form collecting deidentified information outlining the young person’s circumstances, needs and preferred non conventional outlet option.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome via email with funds being disbursed directly to the provider.
